When I have a goal that seems improbable, itâs often because my daily actions arenât aligned with what I want to achieve.Â
Itâs easy to kid ourselves into thinking weâre doing more than we are. Or to blame outside events, other people or individual circumstances. But if weâre honest with ourselves, weâre likely not taking the right steps needed to move the needle forward. Itâs often ourselves that are getting in the way.
I find it helpful to ask myself âAm I doing the best I can despite my current circumstances?â And more often than not, the answer is no.
An example of this would be wanting to lose weight, but not always eating the healthy foods that would get me there. Â
Another example would be wanting to take up a new hobby, but then spending half an hour browsing the internet and then saying I donât have the time.Â
In other words, Iâm not having success because thereâs a lack of consistency between my goals and my actual behaviour.

Here's the thing. Change can feel uncomfortable. And when we do take action, we often set huge goals that are so far removed from our current realities, we set ourselves up to fail.Â
So⌠if you are busy and overwhelmed and want more joy and ease in your life, what are you meant to do?

I wake up at 4.30 am so I can have time alone before a busy morning of getting kids off to school.
I usually start by reading, listening or watching something that sparks a bit of self-inquiry and/or is inspiring. And then I meditate. The purpose is to start my day grounded, calm and grateful.
Once the kids are out of the house, I go for a walk, which can be another form of mediation for me - like a long shower or swimming laps.
On these walks, Iâll sometimes list...
